Blog Post #4: Questions to Explore Reading Lives
The current books that I am reading include my textbooks for my college classes and the textbooks for the classes that I teach. These books travel around in the main section of my backpack and the additional bag that I carry. The regular sections of my day are the time before school, during school when I am teaching, and after school. I could have time for reading appointments before and after school. The possible places for reading for me are my classroom at school and the table that I study at in my home. I read for school and study in both places, but I only read for enjoyment at home. The challenges about reading in my classroom is that I only read before and after school when I am not teaching. The challenges about reading at home is that there is usually background noise.
The other students in my college classes know what I am reading right now because we are reading the same textbooks. I talk to the other students in my college classes about the textbooks I am reading. I get my recommendations from the Professors in my college classes. I wonder about the amount of reading that teachers do compared to other careers. The books that I am reading now relate to teaching and education and they connect to the previous textbooks that I have read in the last year because they are about education and being a successful teacher. I have been reading education textbooks for the past year because I have been in my Master's program for about one year. What I will read next is more textbooks and articles about education because I am studying to become a better teacher. The ideas that are coming up in the textbook I am currently reading are about the importance of literacy and how if the current generation does not learn about literacy, then they will not be able to teach the future generation about literacy. I will connect this idea to the next books I read about education and consider how teachers of all subjects can show their students how literacy is important no matter what subject is being studied.
