Blog Post #1: Optimistic

My one word for this semester is optimistic.  I chose optimistic because I view myself as a optimistic person and look for the best in situations and people.  Some people think that optimistic people have to display their viewpoints in an open fashion, but that is not always true.  Sometimes optimistic individuals may express their positive viewpoints to others, or they may keep their viewpoints to themselves.

Being optimistic relates to literacy in the secondary schools because all teachers no matter what subject they teach are considered reading teachers.  All subjects involve reading and all teachers should instruct students on how reading skills and reading comprehension can help them to have success.  Not all students will come to our class with the same reading level, as some students will be more proficient in reading compared to others.  As a teacher, I will remain optimistic that all students will be able to read and comprehend what they are reading successfully so that they can experience success and mastery of the material.  I will keep my word in mind during the course of the semester by reminding myself that I am making a difference in the lives of my students and by believing that all my students can achieve mastery in the material that we are studying.

I think it is a positive trait for all teachers to be optimistic because it will help their students believe that they can experience success and make a difference in whatever they choose to pursue after their academic career.
